FileMaker Developer 7 allows you to create a recursive calculation that operates on its self. A good analogy of a recursive function is a data entry script. When the user starts the script it pauses to allow them to perform the data entry. When the user clicks the continue button it checks to make sure the data entry is correct. If not, the same script is called again. This loop continues until all the defined parameters are satisfied. This same concept can now be applied to a calculation where it will continue to calculate the text, number, or date until all the specified parameters are met. The best application of a recursive calculation is performed using the custom function feature available only with FileMaker Developer 7.
