Training users to find records using FileMaker Pro has always been an interesting learning curve. FileMaker Pro makes finding records so easy that I think it actually confuses users that are accustomed to other applications that use limited or difficult-to-use query editors, SQL, or Crystal Reports. Since FileMaker Pro 6 was released users have been able to constrain and extend the found set of records. Replicating these functions with FileMaker Pro 5.5 and earlier was no easy task. However, we were able to accomplish it as described in the articles The Ultimate Found Set Part I, Part II and Part III, which are available for download on the Formulations Pro web site. With FileMaker Pro 7 everything has changed again for the better. You can now create a single Find script that will work across your entire solution that incorporates all the Find functions.
