If you've developed FileMaker solutions for any length of time you've probably been asked on more than one occasion to provide a type-ahead feature, also known as clairvoyance. The technique to deploy this feature in FileMaker Pro 7 and earlier is so poor that I either refused to install it or I told the clients that it could not be done in FileMaker. FileMaker Pro 8 finally delivers a built-in auto-complete feature that works as intended. In the demo database create a new record and start typing a name that begins with the letter "D". As you add more letters you will see the pop-up list get whittled down until you arrive at a small list of names for which to choose from.
