The dynamic sorting trick has been around for quite some time. However, FileMaker 9 offers a new trick for both old and new developers. FileMaker offers no obvious formatting to indicate to a user that a field has been sorted in either ascending or descending order. I've asked FileMaker for years to either use the status area to list the fields that are sorted or list the fields that are sorted with the Get(SortState) function. However, I don't think either of these items are ever going to happen, so I've designed a method that uses minimal overhead to provide immediate feedback to the users for the sort direction of a field.
