At MacIT Conference, Austin Convention Center to present FileMaker-based iPad app that earned 200% ROI
City of Austin IT staff will cover their use of FileMaker Go, the top-selling business database app for iPad and iPhone
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – January 24, 2012 – “Quick iPad Apps Developed with Innovative Software Tools” will be presented by City of Austin (Texas) IT staff at the MacIT conference. Jeff Moore, database administrator, will show how the Austin Convention Center eliminated paper-based work orders and achieved 200% ROI with FileMaker Go for iPad (http://www.filemaker.com/products/filemaker-go/).
Moore’s session (http://www.macitconf.com/thursday) will be 11:10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, in San Francisco’s Moscone Center. He will detail how Austin put iPads in the hands of exhibitor service employees, quickly created and deployed apps to eliminate excessive paper forms, which saved countless hours of time and raised customer satisfaction.
Attendees at Moore’s MacIT session will learn how Austin’s innovative approach can help other IT staff quickly and easily create iOS apps and realize similar business benefits.
The Austin Convention Center is a huge facility covering six city blocks and is known for its advanced technology, with miles of fiber and Ethernet cable, over 600Mbps of available bandwidth and providing nearly 6,000 simultaneous wireless Internet connections.
"Work order forms that already existed in our current billing system were easily duplicated and redesigned," says Moore. "Using a development skill-set that we already had, we reworked the user interface with iOS-like elements so that the employees could easily navigate the orders and floor diagrams with one finger. Using FileMaker Go on the iPad, we've been able to produce an application that provides our employees with up-to-the-minute information and the ability to quickly meet the needs of our clients and exhibitors on the show floor."
As a database expert, Moore drove the Austin’s move to mobilize event services with new iOS apps based on FileMaker software. Since 1990, he has been an advocate for Apple products in the enterprise.
MacIT attendees may visit the FileMaker booth to talk further with Moore and see demos of his apps and other FileMaker Go business apps.
