We've just switched to 'Daylight Savings Time' her ein the U.S., and I have a question about generating timestamp values that can account for the time zone/ UTC for data which seems all the more relvant.
I've found that FileMaker contains an UNDOCUMENTED function called Get ( UTCmSecs ), which can be used to calculate the offest from UTC. Since it is undocumented, I have a couple of questions:
1) I'm always uncertain about using a feature that is not 'official', in that it could disappear at any time. Does anyoe know how long this function seems to have been avaiable?
2) Does anyone know if the result of Get ( UTCmSecs ) is calculated from the client or server machine? I'm thinking about remote access across time zones, and need to make sure I record the crrect value.
3) Does anyone have a better (i.e. more likely to work in the future) method for recording the time zone of a data entry along with the time stamp?
