Your Main List layout is complete, but your user has no way of seeing details about a specific person, creating new records, or entering data. Let's create a Main Detail layout to meet those needs. It will display one record from your main table at a time, which works well for data entry and performing finds. You'll also include a portal for viewing and entering your secondary table data.

 

In the Learn phase, you learned how to create a detail layout that included a tab control and a portal. Since these are common elements in most detail layouts, we’ll review those topics along with some others, such as conditional formatting and a dynamic header using the “hide object when” condition.

 

This goal will guide you through the process of building a typical detail layout, using the “Contact Detail” layout from the example solution as a model. Here’s a diagram listing the concepts that you’ll encounter:
