Why did wimdecorte retire from the FileMaker Community MVP Team?
Obviously so he'd have time to cross the globe to speak in person at DIGFM in Santa Clara, California!

Wim Decorte will talk about all kinds of things related to FileMaker Server:

The age-old conundrum between the number of cores and core speed
The four traditional bottlenecks
The various FMS processes
- The new Data API
- IoT (Internet of Things), including Wim's current IoT project
- Etc.

Also Rosemary Tietge will start the first half hour on The FileMaker Community Roadmap.

Rosemary Tietge: FileMaker's Inc's Technical Marketing Evangelist (i.e. FileMaker Community Leader, and content lead for annual FileMaker Developers Conference): That means we see the fabulous fruit of her labors right here in the FileMaker Community and at FileMaker Developer Conferences.

Prior to joining FileMaker, Inc., Rosemary was the publishing technology manager at Harvard University Press and an independent FileMaker developer. When she's not in the office, you'll find her playing with string in her spinning, knitting, and weaving studio or outside hiking in the hills around San Jose.

I sure agree that FM engineers are better at codibg than talking, but on the other hand direct discussion with them can save us lots of wasted hours figuring out under the hood stuff that FMI staf can clear in one sentence. Also, with direct discussion we can better find solution easy to implement by FMI to improve the product

2:35 Started with MS Access. Flight scheduling, "It has to run on my Mac." Thus FileMaker.

Performance problems. Had to figure out networking, etc. Obviously made the switch.

2:39 Bottlenecks

2:40 Pay attention to logs. Turn on Stats.log right away.

2:45 Monitoring

2:50 Turning on logs.

Folder for logs

Watch for dmp files. Can send for FMI support.

2:55 Main reason to deploy on Windows: perfmon

Only server stats log, not client.

2:58 Lookup perfmon doc by WimDecorte on Community.

Deciding factors: Client load, PSoS, Schedules, WebDirect.

3:09 Virtual Servers: Great tool for adjusting on fly

3:10 Mac mini as Server info.

3:14 Speed does great for one thing at a time, but not for several.

You mentioned Zabbix as a tool for monitoring server performance. It appears that it only runs on Linux. Do you install it on a Linux machine and then connect to the Windows or Mac server to monitor performance of FileMaker? Or am I missing something?

We run Zabbix against our FileMaker Server, though I didn't install it or configure it,

I know there's an agent that gets installed on the Windows server, even though the Zabbix server is UNIX.
It gets a few mentions and discussions in the Community:

Yes, you install it on a Linux machine and install the agent on the actual FMS machine for active monitoring (or without agent for passive monitoring).

You can download zabbix as 'an appliance', completely installed with Linux already if you don't want to first set up Linux and then install Zabbix. You can do that as a free-tier AWS instance probably, I have mine running on the free ESXi VMware host, on a spare machine that runs multiple VMware instances.

Yes, you install it on a Linux machine and install the agent on the actual FMS machine for active monitoring (or without agent for passive monitoring).

You can do that as a free-tier AWS instance probably, I have mine running on the free ESXi VMware host, on a spare machine that runs multiple VMware instances.
