How about a built in calendar? Access had that from the beginning. Maybe you could even do things with it.
This idea is a little vague in my mind. Can you flesh it out, dr_john?
There is a calendar picker (for a date field). What did you want beyond that?
Are you looking for a "solution" like http://www.seedcode.com/filemaker-calendar/ ? If so, it may or may not meet all my needs for all my clients. I've created "calendars" which are vastly different for some clients, just because the needs were vastly different. And if you note on this linked page there are many variations just in this one Solution!
So, again, please describe in more details what you mean by "Built in Calendar".
I've often longed for a built-in "Calendar Tool"... SeedCode's solution is an excellent model. I imagine that a layout control like this could work much like the existing Chart Tool:
Naturally, as you suggest this wouldn't solve all calendar problems, just as the current Chart Tool doesn't solve all charting problems. But I think a dedicated Calendar Tool would solve 80% of them.
So maybe a layout widget, sort of like a portal, but where you select the TO, and the date and time fields in that TO to use for placing items on the calendar grid? That's something I could vote up, but is that kind of like what you have in mind?
Maybe "calendar filters" similar to "portal filters"?
For that matter, if we went in that direction, maybe we could do the same for Gantt charts?
This request and its comments encompass a few things:
Or they make FileMaker more modular and offer official plugins for example for calendaring, emailing and more sophisticated business graphics. Who is in the need, could buy them as in-app addons.
