when creating an export, one can't name the tab/csv export as 'MyFile.ics' (for example). Would be really helpfull, ie to create calendar files, etc.
You can script this. Set a variable to the full file name (e.g. get ( desktoppath ) & "test.ics" then specify the output file as the variable.
yes - but why not manually?
I can do it manually on Windows7/FM14. Do you mean on OSX ?
select file type
specify filename with extension
yes - OSX... Will try it under Windows. If that works, it's IMHO no longer a feature request but an issue
Idea/feature/issue/bug - whatever! It's a great idea to fix existing bugs! So it gets my vote!
It was in my considered opinion also a completely unnecessary limitation that was introduced in fm12 which made an already weak export functionality useless for exporting and opening data in the desired target application based on the file extension.
Why sum ware and Menno down voted I can not understand.
See here what other ideas also help Improve FileMakers Integration Technologies
I down voted this, because it is a bug that only appears in OSX. OP should make a bug report instead of requesting feature
Thank you for answering so quickly Menno - I think that such a down vote could have the wrong effect on FMI.
The down vote suggests that you do not want this thing to be implemented. It would be much better to vote it up and suggest in the comments that it also be entered as an issue in the issue area.
IMHO the wrong way to heaven. Will think about twice before posting another entry here
