I suggest, to allow dialogfields with dropdownmenues from valuelists like for normal fields in layout.
Also Checkboxes, options, calendarpicker, timepicker and so on.
A full fledged dialogue editor is longtime missing. We can be thankful, that with popovers we have an alternative since v13.
We can already accomplish a dialog window with full layout editing capability using the modal "advanced" window style. Is anything added by including the additional field control styles in custom dialogs, or is this primarily a developer convenience? Compatibility with web direct has come up on other threads (where popovers can fulfill the same purpose), but what else?
A fullfledged dialogue editor is something that should have been there 10 years ago when dialogues were "en vogue". Of course it is a solution to wait that long, that the tide goes by. Indeed, with Webdirect, popovers and modal windows (they could look more than dialogues easily, if FMI had more love to detail) the need for a dialogue editor decreased. But if you were to develop a desktop only solution, a dialogue editor would come in handy. Only real dialogues look 100% like the system looks and you can use them on all layouts without doing them again and again like you would have to do with the popovers.
see it from this side: designing or programming a popover or modal window ist much more work than to define a dialogfield, that has a dropdownlist. I know all the workarounds, but I dont want a workaround when it can be solved in an easy way. That is the idea, why i wrote this thread.
