Extend layout pasteboard

In layout mode, we have the non-visible layout area at the right, and it is very useful. That's what I'm referring to as the "pasteboard."

I'd love to see the pasteboard extended below the layout. This would be extremely useful when editing a list view layout, so we wouldn't have to keep scrolling horizontally as we move our fields; and there's plenty of room when your body part is short.

Ideally the pasteboard would extend to all four sides of the layout. But I'd be very happy just to see it added to the bottom.

Please, yes!

If I have an object at the bottom of the layout, I cannot duplicate it without extending the layout. I have to copy-paste it, and unfortunately it's difficult to get things to paste in a reliable location. If the object is the entire height of the layout, I can't paste it at all.

I see no reference in the prining industry where this is "pasteboard" (a type of cardstock). I suppose this is a call for a name for: the grey area beyond the layout viewable area

Please keep on mind that those names always have to be translated to various languages.
Since "Slide-Elements" is translated to german as "S E I - T E N - S T E U - E R - E - L E - M E N T!", I wonder what they would make out of "the-grey-area-beyond-the-layout-viewable-area-where-you-can-place-sketches-without-hurting-anyboy".

Somehow I would expect the German term for this part to consist of several dozen words strung together.

I usually start building Field Labels in german first. Switching to french then forces me to extend label width for another 50%!

Am I remembering it wrong or didn't we used to have the ability to specify how much the offsets were with a duplicate?

Ben is it not a bit off-OP ? But i thank you to have bring my attention to this idea, i voted up obviously !
Sounds like Bev have initiated a sub-subject and you a sub-sub one... In french, the words in the field name have sometimes to be shortened : "Numéro" = "No". Also i personnaly remove systematically articles, particles : "de" "du" "le" "la" "les" "a" "au" "pour" etc... Sounds like it was Tarzan who denominated my fields . Finally, when i had to translate my solution to deustch i didn't touch to the real field names and i built a translation system for the label field on the layouts, since this idea is still not implemented : Field Labels. My system works fine, except of course for FM dialogs. If a had to built from scratch today, i maybe would use the english as the code base language. (Hard to be more off-topic than that .)

I think the default was 6 px in both directions and you could change that in preferences. I really miss that. I would set it up to be 0 horizontal and the number of vertical pixels that I used for field spacing. That way duplicating a field put it in the exact place it needed to be, none of this 9 down and 9 over stuff that serves no one and adds a lot of extra keystrokes and mouse dragging.

Thanks, Cécile. I don't know about French, but in English I'd consider the canvas to be the page -- in FileMaker, the visible layout -- and the pasteboard to be what lies outside of the page. I chose pasteboard because I used to use PageMaker back when Macs were beige. (In PageMaker, the pasteboard would be constant, no matter what page you were on, which made it very handy when moving elements in a long document. Did FileMaker used to work that way -- a gray area shared by all layouts? Maybe pre-7? I cannot remember.)

At any rate, they can call it the ping-pong table for all I care, as long as we get it!

FMPA 11 does NOT have this feature. There is no 'grey area' beyond the viewport/print area. It just keeps going unless you View > Page Margins or View > Preview Mode. Any "grey area" at the bottom is not accessible.
