Please release a version of FileMaker Cloud for Developers and include it as part of the FileMaker Developer Program.
What exactly should this be?
Looking for the ability to user your FM Developer Program demo FMS license with FM Cloud… or better yet, an additional license that can be used for FM Cloud, without having to "convert" the other one. So we can test FMS both on an in-house dev server, and with a FM Cloud AWS instance.
This should be fully a functional version of FileMaker Cloud with the same connection restrictions as FileMaker Server for Developers. It should be an additional license key included in the FileMaker Developer Subscription. Unlike FileMaker Cloud it should include the ability to run on an AWS EC2 micro instance.
I think this is a great idea and will help grow and improve the Cloud platform faster. +1 for the EC2 micro. I would argue that FMC should allow a micro install as well. I have my FMS on an EC2 micro and it is fine with Windows 2012 so I am sure it would be even better with CentOS.
So upset, i bought the developer licence unnecessarily.
There has to be a way to test before going live. Otherwise FM solutions go out to the public without being properly tested. Looks bad for FM and the developer.
Revisiting this idea again. This is still needed.
Current FM Cloud development server options are one of the following:
What this really means?
With FMC 1.16 new/existing clients want to have/revisit the discussions about using FileMaker Cloud. Without a reasonable development environment I do not have solid answers to some of their specific deployment and development concerns. The end result is clients not wanting to use FileMaker Cloud because they are uncertain about it from feature, performance and pricing perspectives. The lackluster reviews of the FM Cloud product in the AWS marketplace are also a huge factor for clients. It is currently at around 2 out of 5 stars with over 50% of the reviews at 1 star. Ouch!
Let's talk about this more. Maybe FDS needs to cost more with Cloud added? Maybe FDS license gives you a much better hourly rate for FM Cloud software?
There has to be an answer. Until there is an answer for this I will likely continue to direct all new FM licensees to an appropriate sales rep for non FM Cloud licensing. I want to get more clients on FM Cloud, but it sure is not easy to convince them it is a good idea.
This is definitely needed. Developers should have access to all FileMaker products and services to be able to contribute to the community and the future.
