Well, for Windows and Linux, FileMaker Inc. would need to license HEIF libraries and include them in the product.
For Mac/iOS, they can leverage the functionality from Apple to some degree.
So if you need it today, you can check whether FileMaker uses the same CGImageSource functions from Apple as our MBS FileMaker Plugin to convert images on the fly to PNG or JPEG.
I just made an analyze in activity monitor and in the report I see FileMaker 16 uses CGImageSource functions from Apple.
So I think it's more the missing entry in the file open dialog types for Mac.
And the requirement to do the JPEG preview as they do for other types.
It may be a better idea to convert them in FileMaker: Auto convert HEIF images to PNG on import
Otherwise you would need to do this via MBS FileMaker Plugin.
Sure, as long as it's not in a plug-in?
