I do not see how this requires any explanation. It would just be extremely useful.
It would require a small amount of file shuffling, but you can already to this. Were you wanting to export to a .fmp12 file and email it? How fast would you like the file to be generated? You can always have the FM Server prepare the file for you and then you download it or forward a link to the hosted .fmp12 .
For local FMGo files. Tired of the shuffle that includes saving the entire file as a copy and then deleting all records except the ones needed.
I want it done just as it works on FMP.
This feature seems problematic from their licensing standpoint of active concurrent FMGo connection to FMS.
They charge a subscription fee for these connections.
If you could just dump a file then post it, you would never need to buy more concurrent licenses.
This is most likely the reason why skipped adding the .fmp12 export feature in the first place.
Passing data around via a .fmp12 is much faster and efficient then generating and parsing giant JSON, Delimited Data Sets in Text Files.
End users don't typically enjoy watching that process unfold for very long.
I could probably build you a export function in FileMaker Go, if its something that you were really needing.
But if its just a wish list item for FileMaker to add in and not really that big of a deal for any of your projects then I totally understand and agree with you on that.
I currently work around this issue, but I don't like doing it.
I see your point but with the new user connection model each user is licensed if they connect to the server at any time, for any reason.
