So every time a new field-object is made via the "Field/Control tool"-button, it uses the defaults from File->Database->Field->Options:
Many options from View-inspector e.g.:
- Arrange & Align
- Sliding & Visibility
The default option can be overridden/overruled by View-inspector.
The default option can have a separate default option tab if used in foreign tables.
The default option can have a separate default option tab for related and unrelated tables when used in foreign tables. - E.g. if the field is used on a layout of a foreign unrelated table (no relationship) it might default be unchangeable.
- E.g. if the field is used on a layout of a foreign related table (reachable; has relationship) it might default be changeable.
- E.g. if the field is used on a layout of a foreign related table (reachable; has tunneled relationship) have some other default options.
For every option/option-group, it should be possible to mark, that the local layout theme/style should be default overridden/overruled.
Most field-date should among others have the option "Drop-down calendar".
Some fields should among others have the option Field entry "Find mode" only.
In one of our Filemaker databases we use color-coded Fields, that do not change from layout with same "Layout setup: Show records from":
Light yellow - entry mandatory.
Light green - The field value is only loosely information, but it is best if it is valid.
Light blue/cyan - Optional entry.
Light purple - No entry possible. The value is looked up or calculated from other database field(s) from this tables. The value is not changeable.
Light grey - No entry possible. The value is looked up or calculated from other database field(s) including from other tables. The value is not changeable.
The default options could depend if the layout will be used for clients via Filemaker Go, Cloud, Pro, Webdirect.
