Summary

Dates imported with padded zeros turn into European dates

Product

FileMaker Pro

Version

11, 10, 9 and more

Operating system version

Mac OS X

Description of the issue

When a text file is imported into a date field, if the dates have padded zeros, FileMaker will transpose the month and the day.

Steps to reproduce the problem

Create text file with date such as "08/07/11". Import that into a date field.

Expected result

August 7, 2011 or 8-7-11

Actual result

July 8, 2011 or 7-8-11

Exact text of any error message(s) that appear

No error

Workaround

If the data is copied from the field and pasted back into it, the transposition does not happen. It respects the settings for date format. I have needed to set up a script that goes through all imported records to copy and paste the date field for each record.
