On Windows 7 with FileMaker Pro Advanced 14.0.3 installed ...
After installing Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (the latest version of this app) container fields optimized for pdfs no longer display the documents contained in those fields.
We went through this with previous versions of FileMaker, where a solution would be delivered and everything was working fine. Then Adobe updates Acrobat Reader, the client installs it, and they can't read their documents stored in the database any more. And it doesn't get "fixed" until the next release of FileMaker. It seems like, for most of each version's lifespan, storing pdfs in container fields is unusable.
When are they going to change this? I assume FMP is relying on the default pdf reader on a given system. Other applications don't do this. They interpret pdfs natively and aren't held hostage to every change that comes down the pike from Adobe (which, I believe, is the most widely-used pdf reader).
How about not using container fields for pdf files, and replacing it with a dedicated field to view and interact with pdfs?
