You managed to sneak in yesterday during the 3 minutes between when the DNS finally caught up with the change and when we locked down the site again.
Now everything except for points is working. There are a few places we're still working on (like Platform (the new name for Resources). If you can't find something, try search. If you still can't find it ask because we did retire some out of date content.
Please head over to Community Feedback and Information to let us know what you think and to read up on the changes and new features.
RosemaryTietge there are reports of not getting email notifications. I did not get any for the replies to this topic.
I can confirm what bigtom is reporting as I did not get an email with his reply even after signing the new Terms 14 minutes ago.
You seem to have two locations named "Discussons" and it's not really clear what, besides display format, is different, yet they are different. Right now at the top of this screen, I see:
All Places>Discussions>Discussions
If I click the first "discussions", I get an "expanded form list of recently updated posts. If I click the second, I get the original type display that I'm used to (and that lets me review the titles to a lot more posts at the same time), but the items listed there do not match the items listed if I click the other link. Newly added discussions don't seem to appear there.
Phil,
This has always been two separate section of the same thing. I agree that the lower level is the one I prefer and having to always click a topic to see the breadcrumbs (All Places>Discussions>Discussions) and get where I want to go is annoying.
I went crazy for a few minutes on the current site as the breadcrumbs did not display on my desktop. It seems the responsiveness of the site is not based on overall window width, like many sites, but is based on a ratio of width and height.
Once I shortened up the browser I could see the link to get to All Places>Discussions>Discussions.
If I had one key feedback it would be to see the lower (deeper) lever discussion page as a default as it has more information about thread with no answer and how active a thread is.
Maybe more people prefer the trending topic tiles?
You're not the first person caught out by this change in behavior. The Activity page is showing trending content with some context. If you click on Content under the banner, you'll see everything. Once you've read something, clicking Discussions in the header puts you back in the Content list, but shows only the Discussion content type. One of the changes caused by the upgrade is that Questions and Discussions are different content types, so you don't see everything. If you click All Content, you'll see everything again.
Watch for a detailed post with some screenshots to help clarify this later today.
I am clicking neither "Activity" nor "Content" as I understand this. Those options aren't even visible at the time. Instead, I see this text:
All Places > Discussions > Discussions
Two of the links here are labeled "Discussions" and the content produced by clicking them is not the same and I don't see any way to tell just by looking at the results produced why they don't list the same posts. Thank you for explaining Activity vs. Content though as that gives me another way to my preferred format for reviewing recent posts. It's just not always available.
You need not click those tabs. You are clicking the "bread crumbs" on any discussion detail. This has been this way for a while. (As you mostly use reply-by-email, it may have escaped your notice before now!) These are not a change with the upgrade. (Although the "Activity" may have been "Overview" before.)
IF you click the last "Discussion", it does bring you to the "Content" tab.
IF you click the middle "Discussion", it does bring you to the "Activity" tab.
Yes, they are different "views" of the same space.
Beverly
p.s. The "All Places" link takes you to the list of places that you'd see if you clicked the "Your Places" under your avatar. That defaults to the "Following" instead of "All", but it's the same content.
I do not use reply by email.
and the right hand discussions bread crumb appears to filter out all questions. I just did two screen captures and that appears to be the reason for the difference. The header, for either bread crumb shows that these are "content" views not Activity. And please note that I am clicking the bread crumb because "Content" is not present in the header to click.
If I click "Content" in the header:
If I click the right hand Discussion Bread crumb:
Note the absence of any "Discussions" that are of type "Question". I think that's the reason for the difference and maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but this was not the case before the update as far as I can remember.
philmodjunk Thats why all the questions were gone. Thanks for helping me find the obvious.
Just to point out when I login, to get to the page I want to use for browsing:
From there I can start to interact with the community. On mobile this includes a number of additional moves from portrait to landscape to see the breadcrumbs and the actual non mobile page, which I prefer.
Thank you for confirming the behavior I'm seeing. I've escalated the issue because this is a pretty significant behavior change that will affect a lot of members. My two workarounds for now:
cool! Lost a posting when hitting return key. boom, disapeared...
I'm on iPad most of the times beeing here.
- can't edit a created posting anymore (post created a second ago, no 'edit' button). This seems to be when in the in-box)
- missed postings, due to the different 'views' Phil mentioned (?)
- still no swipe to right to go to the previous page when in in-box, expected to go back to the in-box, but goes to the page visited before going to the in-box (what is the start-page..)
edit:
when not via in-box, edit works!
when starting up, means displaying the site for the first time, almost half of the screen is cluttered by info that is not really needed. (iPad!).
I understand, that nobady seems to use iPads as a tool for work...
