I noticed no one appears to have any points with their avatar. Were they all reset to 0?
Looks like it, as you are now on 7pts, (presumably for starting this thread)
According to RosemaryTietge's post: Welcome to the new FileMaker Community, the point system is changing and we will find out about that next week.
I would like to learn about the new point system.
e.g. what causes points to go up and down. Yes down, as I saw my point number today go up and down.
I don't really care about the points, those I've helped have offered their thanks and having received so much helpful and useful information within this forum, have made my thanks.
However, had a quick look at my profile and saw a 'Leaderboard' link that took me to the attached. I guess this is a Jive thing, but 'players'?
I've never considered this forum a game or a competition and I'm not sure I like the implication. Personally I'd consider 1 single piece of useful information a year worth thousands of repetitive comments. Then again, we don't value certification, preferring to focus on product development and building a business based around FileMaker, so perhaps I'm in the minority.

+1... I once took pride in my point level and then saw that I had surpassed (more than a few) users who had actually contributed far, far more to the FileMaker community than my posts here. Took me down a notch immediately.
I imagine that it would be difficult for this forum's point system to reflect outside contributions. But it would be nice if the system here better reflected a user's signal-to-noise ratio.
CICT and PeterDoern,
Thank you for the feedback. Yes, Jive calls participants players. The "Not enough player data." is part of the problem we're having right now with the migration.
The work we have planned the point system is directly aimed at emphasizing valuable contributions to the Filemaker Community both here in the online platform and out in the world over only being a prolific contributor here online.
They were just waiting to see who'd be the first to ask.
The points make sense. I used to only come here for answers and rarely contribute anything at all, just because I was busy. The points are at least a reminder of "how helpful or unhelpful have I been lately?"
But the points aren't just for the people who receive them, they are kind of an indicator to the audience of how helpful the person is who responds. When scanning through a long list of responses or weighing conflicting responses, it's at least a partial guide of who to pay attention to more. It made sense to me. (The only exception might be a rare person who seems to inflate value by posting numerous barely-relevant responses, but if you stick around, you'll figure out who does that.)
Does that mean that we will all start at zero again? Or will the previous scores somehow get included in one way or another?
I'm glad to hear that external contributions will contribute to the reputation of members here. Good move.
The plan is to restore everyone's points and certification badges. This was supposed to happen seamlessly as part of the upgrade this week, but something went wrong. Jive is trying to figure out what went wrong and fix the issue. I'll update as soon as I know more.
My points have been "restored" but I dropped from a level 8 to a level 5! This sucks!! I worked hard to earn those points and badges! I'm actually pretty pissed off about this.
And what constitutes an "external contribution" ? And who determines how much they're worth?
Nothing makes me angrier than when people change the rules in the middle of the game. This is BS
I joined this forum in 2011 or thereabouts, then was largely absent for a period of time. I returned a few years ago and rose pretty quickly in the points system. No sooner had I started taking notice of the points system when the forum admin at the time reset it with new labels for the different levels and new points thresholds for each level. I dropped from a level something-something to a level whatever.
I guess I would be angry if I were using the points system and my level on the FileMaker Community in my marketing material or something, but I'm not. As it is, I think the improvements to the community outweigh any perceived drop in my value as a contributor.
Perhaps, but there is no reason to arbitrarily reset the points. We can have the new design and still keep the point system the same. I get that it's a minor issue, but I don't like when the rules change in the middle. It really rubs me the wrong way.
I really feel less inclined to contribute my time to this forum. I still will, but I will be less inclined. Not because I care all that much about the points I get, but because the whole thing just strikes me as dishonest, and arbitrary, and perhaps a bit political.

Only in video games do points and levels matter. I can't defeat the final boss without a certain level.
Here, it doesn't matter so much. Helpful people are at all levels, the level being mainly representative of when they joined and how often they participate.
I agree. Then if that's true, let's eliminate the points and levels altogether, if they truly don't matter. Otherwise, you don't change the rules in the middle of the game. It's just uncool.
Now that points have migrated properly, we will configure the new system to match the previous levels (and fun FileMaker relevant level names) instead of the defaults. We also need to re-configure the custom challenges for certification which may take a week or so since the API for this system is completely different than for the old one.
I disagree with the premise that points are not important. I believe the points are important because they represent participation and knowledge of FMP. IMHO both are important in the FMI Community. They also promote participation in competitive individuals, like FMP developers. §^=)
The points awarded are weighted towards providing answers. For example, a reply marked as the correct answer is given more points than posting the question.
As Rosemary said, the points awarding system is still being updated. This move to the new system has been a huge effort by her and the FMI staff. I think we should be patient.
So, I jumped the gun a bit. Last week when there were no points, I saw that the new version was still under construction. Today when I saw the points restored, button different levels, I assumed that this was the new system. But apparently it’s still got some work left to be done.
And I agree, the points are important, not just because of competition. I always looked at it as a personal yardstick of sorts, and it sucked to see that taken away. So I got pissed off. As long as I get my points and badges back, I have no other complaints.
and fun FileMaker relevant level names
Hmmm, what made them fun was that the rather goofy names didn't seem relevant....
The number of points should be the same the Levels are different AFAIR. As was stated hold on the best is yet to come.

I notice some have a green trophy that says "expert" when you hover over it. Is that part of the new system? Those were on some people from day one after the relaunch.
Those green trophies indicate that the member is an MVP in the FileMaker Community. These are members who have a history of being exceptionally helpful and well-regarded in the Community. They volunteer to make sure that questions are answered, new members are welcomed, and they generally help the FileMaker team keep things helpful and friendly. For more about the program see Introducing the FileMaker Community MVP program and Introducing the FileMaker Community MVPs.
I've updated the levels to match the old system with one change -- the new system is a 0-based array and not a 1-based array. The level names and points are the same, but the corresponding numbers are one less.
I can finally Detect Inspectors again!
I note that on this thread points are now showing for some (yourself and Beverly, for example) but not others (e.g. philmodjunk and, elsewhere, bigtom). How come?
Look at "philmodjunk" profile and you'll see his points are showing.
His reference was to:
13588 points away from Web Director
I noticed that some of the pop ups on hover over names were not correct. I wondered if the caches needing clearing/repopulating. But I agree with choc. that the actual profiles are showing the points.
That's a really good question and I've escalated it. I'll let you know what I find out.
Another strange thing is the Points sometimes appear in the hover popover and sometimes don't. Sometimes they appear in the Profile and sometimes they don't. Different users are showing different results.
Ah, looks like Rosemary is on top of it. I am cautiously optimistic that a solution will be implemented 'soon'.
Yes, it is the differing hover displays that I was referring to. Thanks for looking into it Rosemary.
Well, since there is no higher calling here than "Relationship Builder", I'm going to retire when I reach level 7. Only 660 points to go!
Help! Community Ranking
For me, in this thread only keywords have "nothing", and some people (ch0c0halic, eric etc.) have avatar, location, but 0 points, some (beverly, PeterDoern etc.) have all.
Add: "only keywords" is not correct, I forgot to check OP and at this point get same result as keywords...
What we see must be different for different users, then. I see some with points and many without—including you—whereas you see your points but not mine. Even SteveMartino who started this thread has none.
Exactly, I am going to stop commenting on this thread until Rosemary comes back and let's us know something has been fixed. Until then we are not adding anything that will help solve the problem.
