The databases have to be running on the hosting computer.
From the client computer when you click open remote, is the server with the ip address listed? If so double click the server and it should add the files.
The server w/ ip address is listed. Double clicking does nothing.
I don't see why, but my environment may be at issue. I am accessing both the host and client remotely with 'logmein', with windows for both the host and client active. The client recognizes the host, the databases are active on the host, but the file does not show as 'available' in the remote open on the client.
Is your host computer and client computer on the same network?
You may have add filemaker to your firewall. Filemaker uses port 5003.
Here is a link to filemaker troubleshooting
If your client computer is on a outside network from the host then see the following link.
Yes, host and client are on the same network.
I've successfully set up file sharing on another locak network, and have 'port forwarded' port 5003 to allow access from outside the network. This installation, that I'm trying to verify remotely, is frustrating since the other one went so smoothly.
I have forwarded the filemaker 'help' link above to the network administrator who set this network up for me. Maybe there's something in what he did that's blocking the access.
Thanks for the help.
