FileMaker & Twilio
Hello all, I'm trying to integrate Twilio with Filemaker to send and receive SMS Messages. I have found a script that sends the messages, but cannot find a way to receive them. Any suggestions?
Could I see this script that sends to begin understanding? Does it use PHP?
Script is as follows:
Set Variable [$sms_account_ID ; (Twilio account ID)]
Set Variable [$sms_token ; (Twilio auth token)]
Set Variable [$from ; (Twilio phone number)]
Set Variable [$phone_number ; (number being sent to)]
Set Variable [$message ; (whatever you want it to say)]
Insert from URL [ Select; No Dialog; (Your field) ; "httpspost://" & $sms_accountID & ":" & $sms_token & "@api.twilio.com/2010-04-01/Accounts/" & $sms_accountID & "/Messages.json?To=+1" & $phone_number & "&From=+1" & $from & "&Body=" & $message
That's the script I use to send messages
I see, your send example uses httpost this is similar to http request. You also now want to receive an http response (receive). This being very interesting I searched for examples online. Then I wound up on the Twilio website, very interesting. This is a very useful way to get clients/members of you work information. After glancing at the Twilio API I don't see any examples of getting an http response (receiving) sent via PHP or XML, seems like it can only be sent to a phone. In order to see the text response in a FileMaker record you will need an http response. If you see anything suggesting that it can do this show it to me and I will take a look.
Does this work? Sorry I know FileMaker pretty good, but I'm clueless when it comes to PHP.
OK tell me if you understand the part about needing the web host local or online? This way I can give some better advice. You will definitely need MAMP or XAMP or your own real web site. Are you on Windows or Mac?
I'm currently using FileMaker Pro13 Advanced on Mac to build my database and it is currently online through WebDirect. We are hosting the website through DataTrium. We will be moving our database to our own website shortly.
Hi, I had intended to try this once I got the free account Twilio is talking about. I have not found the time to do it yet, thought I would this past weekend. I think then it is as simple as creating a test PHP script so that FileMaker can run it. You seem to understand the way to let a script access the url from Script Maker so if that easy it should work. You mentioned who you are going to be hosted with, that usually does the trick, but a simple and useful way is to run a localhost, then you have more control over the configuration. I am going to get the Twilio account soon. Let me know if you make any other progress.
Did you two ever work out how to receive messages as in the original query?
I never was able to. Sorry!
Thanks Patrick, I'll let you know if I can figure it out.
