Discussions in Report an Issue suggest that the updater may fail if you have more than one copy of a filemaker 11 app installed such as filemaker 11 and filemaker 11 adv or filemaker 11 and filemaker server 11 on the same machine. Several users have worked around the problem by removing one app, running the updater to update the other and then reinstalling and updating the second application.
Perhaps that will work for you.
Thanks for the fast response, Phil. Unfortunately though, I only have ONE FileMaker 11 app. I do however still have V9 and V10 installed for some legacy files.
I just ran Yasu over my Mac to see if any other problems existed, then rebooted and tried the installer agin. Same problem.
Has the FileMaker Pro application been renamed from the original install?
Hi uLearnIT. Nope, the app is named as installed from the original media: "FileMaker Pro", and contained in the folder named "FileMaker Pro 11"
You can download the demo which is now a v2 installer.
Just change the 'Assisted Install.txt' file not to use the demo install code (and use your own).
Thanks uLearnIT. I tried that, but it still installed as a demo - must have something in the software to prevent such 'hacks'. I'm kinda amazed that I'm the only person having this drama.
Yep certainly not a common problem. Have you actually uninstalled FMP11 and tried re-installing? (Uninstall correctly)
The install of the demo has worked for others - what did you do to the assisted install file?
Hi uLearnIT. I uninstalled V11, then reset permissions, then did a clean install, then applied the update. All to no avail.
When I installed the demo, I edited the file changing the default name to my name, and the serial number to my registered serial number.
OK, installing the trial may be a red herring. Sorry. The installer can apparently be used with your full license - instructions in this KB article - 7073
Uninstall the trial version completely.
Make sure you manually remove the preferences from <home>\Library\Preferences\FileMaker Preferences\ (this may be what you have not previously done)
Install your original 11.0v1. Then apply the updater.
Failing all that, you may need to contact FileMaker Support and get a download link for a full 11.0v2 installer.
I spoke to FileMaker Australia this morning, and went through all the above details. According to them this is a KNOWN problem with Mac upgrades to 11 V2. Unfortunately, as I purchased my original upgrade from 10 to 11 as media - as opposed to a download - I can't get a download link to the 11.0v2 installer! That's kinda annoying as I have been somehow disadvantaged for purchasing media.
FileMaker Australia reckons the update (probably) was successful, but just doesn’t update the registry details. Their advice is to wait to see if any of the techs who read this list come up with anything.
All I can do is now wait, then report back to this list to hopefully save some other Mac FileMaker user the time I’ve wasted with this problem. <!--EndFragment-->
I'm Private Messaging a few folks to take a look at this thread. Others have been able to get download links simply by proving they made the original purchase.
Thank you for your post.
Some of our customers have reported this same problem, as it only seems to affect some Mac OS machines. You can see some of these reports on the forum at:
Some of these customers have found that reinstalling FileMaker Pro 11v1 resolves the issue.
Our Testing department has not yet found the cause. I will post as information becomes available to me.
Hi PhilModJunk. Thanks. FileMaker Australia can't give me a download link as I purchased a Media upgrade, so I appreciate your kind assistance.
Hi TSGal. Whew! Glad I'm not the only person with this problem, but it is a weird one. I've uninstalled and reinstalled FM 11 3 times, so that doesn't work in my case.
The link you provided shows the installer fails, and throws up a message. In my case the installer completes its task and throw up the standard "installation complete" message. There are NIL problems with the install, yet FM 11 is not updated.
