Filemaker 7 vs. Filemaker 10
Is it worth the upgrade?
I would appreciate it if people could give a detailed description of what Filemaker 10 can do that 7 couldn't.
Here is a basic chart. There is a lot more to it, but the selling points can be conditional formatting, web viewer, ESS, and script triggers.
Hmm, you could always try the phrase 'If you had Filemaker 10, <<insert problem>> would be easy to solve." :smileyhappy:
But seriously, FMS10 is multithreaded, which means operations performed at the server should be much faster. Plus, many functions have been added that make calculations much easier. Not to mention live connections to SQL datasources, both from the client and server, saved searches, sending mail from the server, improved server-side script capabilities, easier scheduling of backups, script triggers. Saved seaches is probably one thing that a end-user is going to notice and like the most, besides the speed improvements. Most of the other things I can think of help the developer and make better applications.
thank you so far, you've been helpful.
Does Filemaker 10 support the same file format the Filemaker 7 does? i.e. would they have to convert all their current FM7 files into a different format?
