Filemaker 7.0 solution won't work in Filemaker 12

I've been using a Filemaker 7.0 database for managing our lab's invoices. I modified one of the installed solutions to meet our requirements (mostly tweaking the layouts). I recently upgraded to Filemaker 12, and have been trying to migrate my existing database to the new version. The database still works fine in 7.0. However, when I try to open it in 12, I get the error message "File conversion could not be completed. This file seems to be damaged."

I'm working on a MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.6.8. I REALLY don't want to export my Filemaker 7.0 files in a tab delimited file, then import into Filemaker 12 - I'll lose all my layouts, and have to rebuild way too much stuff.

Anyone else see this problems? Any recommended workarounds?
