If you restart your computer and try again, do you get the same error message?
Yes, I did have File maker server on this computer but have removed it now but still get the same message?
That is probably the cause. Some part of the server installation is likely still in place.
What OS are you using? (Please indicate the OS version as well as the name)
How did you "remove" it?
I'm using System Software Overview:
System Version: OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
Kernel Version: Darwin 12.5.0
Boot Volume: Macintosh HD
Boot Mode: Normal
Romoved by dragging to trash and emptying trash, then restart computer
But what exactly did you drag to the trash?
All the associated files or just the application file? And was that just the admin console Java app or the server app that actually hosts the files over your network?
I'm not a mac user. In windows, we'd use a control panel option to uninstall the server software and that should remove all the bits and pieces of server. Don't know all the details for Mac, but I've seen TsGal specify fairly detailed instructions for removing the server application in order to do a clear reinstall....
There are Filemaker help pages about removing Server - for Macs they always use the installation CD to do the removal.
For those on Macs without the CD to uninstall, it seems to be a secret
It could be as simple as a plist in preferences folder in System/Library
It probably includes a kext (kernal extension) in one of several folders in System / Library folder
Since Java is involved with the admin app, there could be associated files that seem unrelated to FMP Server.
