We need to more about what you have set up when you want this maxium value. A simple way to get the "largest value" is to find the records for that scene and then sort by take number in descending order. The highest value will be the first record. You can also set up sorted portals where a sort order specified in either portal setup or in the portal's relationship sorts the records so that the top most record has the largest value. Summary fields can compute the maximum value of your set of records, the max aggregate functions can return the largest value of a set of related records...
I am doing this on a layout that has a field that indicates what take number a scene has been approved at. It sorts this layout by scene number, and then the field next to it will say the approved take.
So it looks like:
Field 1 - Field 2
001 - Take 2
However if say I have a listing for 001 - Take 2 and a 001 - Take 4, I want to only see the 001 - Take 4. I know I can set a script to sort just the 001 by Take, but I need to see if it's possible to sort multiple records in this manner.
Is 001 - Take 2 in one record and 001 - Take 4 in a different record?
Are they in the same record as that referred to in layout setup for this record or are they in a related table?
You can sort records by the values of more than one field. You can sort first by field 1, then by field 2 in the same sort operation.
They are in separate records.
Is field 2 a number field or text?
Does it store just a number or does it store the text: "take 1", "take 2", ....
It lists the text "Take 1" etc., but it is a number field.
Then you should be able to sort by specifying field 1 as the first field in the sort order and field 2 as the second. Either that or you perform a find for all records with 001 in field 1 and just sort by field 2.
Either way, you can specify a descending sort order for field 2.
