Hmm... I'm not sure that I understand question correctly.
I think that "Manage Layouts" is tool to set up Script triggers, Views, etc. not to go to the layout.
To go to the layout is drop - down list under "Layout".
If you have so many layouts probably some script with text field and auto-complete pervious entered values can be faster.
You are right, when I scroll down to the layout and click on it, it should be going to the layout. But if the layout is far behind, like the 200th layout, FileMaker pro Adv 10 will simply stop on the last layout. It is very hard to navigate to the layout that I want to make some change to.
When a given layout is set to not show in the layout menu the only way to get to it is via Manage Layouts>View>Go to Layout. It's common to not allow some, or most, layouts to be reached by the Go to Layout in Browse mode in solutions meant for end-users.
If you specify that a layout not be included in layout menus. It's not visible in Browse mode but is still visible in the layout menu when you are in Layout Mode. Thus, you can get to such a menu either from manage | Layouts.... or by entering layout mode and selecting your layout from the layout menu. If you don't want to modify the layout, just need to see it in browse mode, enter layout, select it, then return to Browse mode.
(Back in the old days before there was a Manage menu item, this was the only way you could do it short of performing a script.)
"jasongan" - the original poster - posted the problem recently on the "Report a bug" board. This problem has been verified on Windows OS (works on Mac) when a database file has more than 255 layouts. If you try to select a layout from the pop-up greater than 255, FileMaker Pro will display the last layout in the list. See the thread at:
A general question about FM handling of bug reports:
- As info is collected from users, is it incorporated into periodic (frequent?) patches?
- Are there "service packs" issued routinely?
- Or are reports/suggestions/fixes just collected and then incorporated into the next version release?
In my opinion, they seem to be included in a later version release (not necessarily the next) altough there are some service packs, but I wouldnt call them regular. I suppose it depends on the severity of the issue or if Filemaker consider it a bug or feature request.
Take a look at the download section, it will give you an indication of what things have been included in filemaker 10's updates, i.e FM10 V1a, V2 and V3
Clicking on download will give you the details of the update before downloading anything.
I made a spreadsheet of all my layouts and their number. This I can sort/group any way I want.
Then I when I make changes, I bring up the Status Toolbar and enter the layout #
Clunky way of doing it, but haven't found a better way. Too bad you can't even sort the list in FM.
You do have the option of dragging the slider until it's close to the desired layout (in layout mode) and then clicking the arrow buttons to flip to the precise layout.
You could split your database files into several front end files of 255 or fewer layouts--all using external data source references to link to the same "back end" file that stores the data. These are also "clunky" but might be a bit less work than maintaining a spreadsheet of the layout numbers for some projects.
