I am new to scripting, and I know very little programming in java and c, so I would like to know what type of programming languages can I use in scripts for filemaker? besides using the Filemaker Pro commands?
FileMaker's own scripting system in Manage Scripts will be your main "scripting language". You can extend this on Mac systems with Applescripting. Unless you want to create your own plug in? That's something you could create with c and some other programming languages.
I see.. Is the filemaker scripting system robust enough to analyze a string? For example, I want to be able to break down a string by commas, spaces, and dashes. Then create a count of the tokens to know how many tokens I have in that particular string.
Open FileMaker help and look up "text functions".
You'll find many different functions for manipulating and analyzing text.
PatternCount ( TextField ; "-" )
Will return the number of dashes in TextField.
Thank you. I have one more question, what kind of plug in can I use? or how do I create my own plug in? for example if I want to work with C or SQL?
I haven't tried my hand at creating a plug in myself, but if you launch FileMaker, pull down the help menu and select "Development Guide" from the documentation sub menu, you'll get a PDF document that has an entire chapter devoted to this subject.
