Hierarchical Conditional Value lists: Conditional Value List Question
Thanks for the reply David, all good stuff that I am sure I will use.
In this case in Table Holiday I have a calculated field Holiday::archived which sets a 1 or 0 depending on whether Holiday::endDate <= CurrentDate.
I would like my value list to display Holiday data that is current, i.e. Holiday::archived = 0
So the above is not really set on a relationship, but on a condition in a field (only display holidays in the condtional list where archived = False).
But I am not sure if this is possible in Filemaker?
Calculation fields can be used as key fields in relationships, so the fact that you have a calculation does not keep this from working. And "option 1" in the forum tutorial link does not use a relationship to produce the value lists.
BUT, both require a stored, indexed field and a field that refers to the current date must almost always be an unstored calculation field and that will keep things from working here.
I suggest that you define an unstored calculation field, I'll call it cToday, and define it in the table where you need your value list as: Get ( CurrentDate )
Then you can set up a relationship like this for a conditional value list:
TableWhereYouNeedValueList::cToday < Holiday::startDate
Thank you guys. Phil, that last post got me over the top, many thanks.
