Presumably this is a text field?
Can you give some specific examples of what your data looks like?
Hi Phil, Yes it's a text field. Here's are some examples. For this particular year, the dates in the title are in month-day-year format, more or less. Aistrup, Jerry 8-09-2003 II.JPG Vessel, Edward 4-15-03 IV.JPG
Just a thought . . . Does it have something to do with the inconsistency in date format? If it's a text field, "03" is not the same as "2003".
I don't get it because when I "Find" '03" for instance, I get the records with the month "03", no problem. But to find records with '2003', I get nothing.
FileMaker searches words within the text field, and unless find operators are used to specify differently, finds all records where at least one word in the specified field begins with the text entered as search criteria.
In your example, a month number is the begining of a "word" in the field and thus "03" finds all records with a month for March specified in the title.
The year is the text on the end of a word so you cannot find it with this same form of search criteria.
to find all records with a year of 2003.
But I strongly recommend that you move the date in this field into a field of type date to make searches of your records by date information much less complex and more reliable.
Hi Phil, Thank you. *03 worked. I was able to get my 500 files back and denote the year in the year (number) field. I've been importing these files with names with dates and usually I get the year in there before they wind up with all the records but for some reason with 2003, I decided to go to another record before slipping that year in! You've saved me yet again! Thank you! I did Lynda.com filemaker class but I see that I have only scratched the surface.
