      Finding a balance


           Hi Friends,

           New FMPro12 user.  Hopefully a simple problem.  I've got a typical checking ledger: Date, Description, Check No., Debit Amt, Credit Amt.

           Please give me SPECIFIC instructions as to how I can show a running balance when I'm in table view i.e. if it was an Excel situation I would take the previous balance, and add the credit from the current record and subtract the debit from the current record.  How is this done in FMP?  The more responses, the better.

               Create a summary field.  Options to select for summay field.  Total of, amount and running total.

                 Since you have a field for debits and a field for credits, (I will assume a debit should increase the balance)...

                 Define a calculaton field, cBal as:

                 Debit - Credit

                 Then define a summary field, sBalance as the total of cBal. You can select the running total option to get the typical check register type running total to display in your ledger.
