Finding names with yes/no checkbox
Using a single table, how do I find last names which have a yes/no checkbox value?
Do you mean, I have a single table with a field named Last Name? Also on the table is a Radio button set with values of Yes and No. Actually Some of the last names have "Yes" checked, and some have "No" How would I (you) Find just the last names with a yes?
Post a screenshot of your layout, and someone will come to the rescue :)
Thanks for your followup question, Steve. >>How would I (you) Find just the last names with a yes?<< This is exactly what I mean, thanks. Not sure if I have the yes/no checkbox setup correctly to do this. Screenshot is posted below.
Enter Find Mode, Set Field Last Name to the name you want to find, List Name(s) In Directory to "Yes", then perform find. You didn't state which yes field you wanted to search so I assumed List Names(s) In Directory. This may need to be changed. It needs to match the desired field you want to search.
Thanks for your speedy reply, S Chamblee. With apologies (and I am a newbie, as if I had to tell you). What I want to do is to find all the last names who have an 'x' in the box next to 'Prefers Email Notices'. When I enter Find Mode, I see all my fields--where do I Set Field Last Name?
I was giving script steps. To enter manually. Enter Find Mode then Instead of set field, just click on the field Last Name then enter Last Name, click Prefers Email Notices. Perform Find

Enter Find mode and check the Yes checkbox.
S Chamblee and Rick Whitelaw: thanks to you both for your responses. I had the yes/no set configured wrong so I changed that and can now do a find. Can either of you help me with two other questions:
(a) Is there a way of settting a default value for a yes/no radio button box?
(b) I am having one heckuva time with sorting. If I do a find and then return to Show All, my records need to be sorted again. I've checked Keep Records in Sorted Order but any time I perform a function like a find (or even closing/reoperning the file), my records come up unsorted. What am I doing wrong?
a) use auto-enter for the field, then check data and enter Yes.
b) I would guess that there is a script step that is sorting the records / unsorting the records.
(a) when I set up an edit box, I find the auto-enter option; in the radio button set, I don't see that option (just as I didn't see the find set-up box before)--could this have anything to do with the fact that I'm working on FMP12 for Mac?
(b) where would I go to find out how to alter than script step that isn't allowing me to sort the records?
