FM concept confirmation for a noob please

I've been using FM for around a week now and from what I have read and experienced, it works like this:

One table typically has a layout.

If you wish to use the same table data on another layout, you need to create a second instance of it.

Sorting is held on the layout level.

Here's a question, not sure how relevant it is dependent on my understanding above, but if you have a layout on Instance 2 of a table and you edit or add data via the layout associated to it, how does FM know to update both Instance 1 and 2 and indeed, any other Instances to ensure integrity?
