FMP 6.0: auto enter data from previous portal row

FMP 6.0: auto enter data from previous portal row

      Post

In my table "Production Log", there is a portal to "Production Hours". The portal shows 30 rows and allow creation is set to yes.

The fields in the portal are:

      production date (date)

      shift (number)

      machine (text, by value list)

      time up (time)

      time down (time)

      employee (text, by value list)

      position (text, by value list)

I'd like to save time by having some data auto-enter, but I'm not sure the correct way to set this up. Currently, I have the "copy from previous record" but that is not working correctly for me. I have attached an image to show which fields (and why) I am trying to save myself some data entry time.

      Any ideas/suggestions?

Using FileMaker 6 (current version is 11v3), really limits your options here.

You might be able to define some global fields and use a script or user data entry to put values in these fields, then have the portal fields auto-enter the value of these global fields each time a new record is created in the portal. Since this is version 6, you may get better results if you define the global fields in the portal's file.
