1) Select the "text field" to be pasted into, then open the "EDIT" menu at the top, are the Paste options (w/short cuts) selectable ?
2) In Layout mode, select the "text field", Look at the "Data" tab in the inspector, are the "Field Entry" check boxes unchecked ? They should be checked, at least Browse Mode, Find Mode.
Thanks for looking. 1) Yes. 2) No.
Everything is set and accessible. This is a strange behavior that I have not yet confirmed why it is happening. Development of our databases started 20 years ago and our system has been through the various upgrades and updates without much of a hiccup. The problem only started with FMP 14 and is not isolated to a single field, we have several hundred in our main file, a single file, we have about a dozen, or a single computer / user.
Still working on it. Thanks.
I am getting the same issue - After a period of use the copy and paste commands stop working from the keyboard
I ahev to restart program for it to star working again
This should be reported as a possible bug over in Report an Issue.
Yep. I agree and will put it in. Just wanted to see if others saw the same issue or if I could pin down why it happens before posting it there.
Moved to Report an Issue.
I have noticed this as well in FMPA 14.0.1 on OS X 10.10.4. And I can tell immediately if it is going to work or not. Normally, when you select text and invoke the keyboard shortcut for Copy or Paste, you will see the Edit menu flash. When this issue occurs, the Edit menu does not flash for Cmd-C or Cmd-V.
I haven't isolated when it occurs or what might trigger it. It appears to be quite random. I just ran a script and tried using Cmd-C on a highlighted text field and it worked fine. After I found this thread and started entering a response, I went back to FileMaker and Cmd-C & Cmd-V would not work at all. Even after changing layouts and changing records by running a few simple scripts. Then I tried Cmd-O, which worked. After that Cmd-C & Cmd-V both worked fine, several times. Again, after running a few change layout and print scripts, it stopped working again.
Using Cmd-O seems to consistently restore the functionality of these two keyboard shortcuts. Running certain scripts seems to inconsistently cause the issue to occur.
I agree that this is a problem. We have just migrated the office of 30 users to v14 this week and my users are telling me that they are now having failures with copy/paste intermittently. In those cases drag/drop still works.
