Add a calculation field (with calculation result Text) using the function: SerialIncrement("00000" ; Inventory ID)
I would simply create a Number field and in the > Options > Auto-Enter, check Serial Number > and select the "On creation" radio button which is usually selected by default. Enter the number 100001 and increment by 1. The serial number can go all the way up to any number like 9999999999999999... If you select, 000001, then you are limited to six digits 999999.
To replace the current serial numbers, in Browse Mode, make sure that all records are showing (Show All Records), go to the serial number field and do Ctrl+=. Now change the serial number to 100001 with 1 as the increment.
Hope this helps,

Ian, you will find that function SerialIncrement("00000"; Inventory ID) does not stop at "99999" but continues on with "100000", "100001", etc. as the serial number increments beyond 5 digits (or at least it does on FMPA 9 / Mac OS X 10.6).
I used 000001 a few years ago and then someone recommended 100001 but I can't quite remember the reason.
I might go back to 000001. Thanks for the advise!
P.S.: I didn't now about the SerialIncrement function or simply overlooked it. I guess we learn something new every day... Thanks!

Yes, we surely do. My problem is remembering it. :smileywink:
Thank you, really appreciate it!
