      Formula / Calculation Help

      Post

Some of our invoices have tax, some do not so I'm trying to make it so that a "Yes" checkbox named "Taxable" will allow a field called "Tax" to calculate taxas follows:

      If ( not  IsEmpty (Taxable)   (Subtotal - Discount_Total) - (Subtotal - Discount_Total) * .625

The latter part of the equation (in italics) already works without the checkbox, I'm just not sure how to make it so that the equation functions only when the box is checked... I'm just not familiar enough with this yet =/

      any help is much appreciated!

      Thanks!

          Answer specific to your question:

If ( not  IsEmpty (Taxable) ;  //put taxable expression here ; //put nontaxable expression here )

An improvement to consider: replace 0.625 with a field so that you don't have to rewrite your calculation everytime the goverment raises the sales tax. Instead, you can simply enter a new tax rate in the field. This can be a field that looks up the value from a related table or auto-enters the contents of a global field.
