found count on layout that wont modify record ?

      Post

feeling like I am missing something too obvious here.

I have a table of data on individuals with a modification date to set on record chages. I'd like to have a counter on layouts for find results. I understand using a calculaiton field, unstored [Get (Record Number) & " of " & Get (Found Count)].

My problem: how to create this field without triggering the modification date. It can't be in the primary data table. Tried using a related table, but the count shows only [1 of 1].

      tnx.

I learned this trick from LaRetta and it only works in FileMaker 11:

Add this text to your layout: "I Declare Variables".

Give it this conditional format expression:

          Let ([ $RecordNumber = Get ( RecordNumber ) ; $RecordCount = Get ( FoundCount ) ] ; 1 )

Click the More Formatting button and specify a custom font size of 500. (This makes the text invisible when you are in browse mode.)

Then add this layout text to your layout:

          <<$RecordNumber>> of <<$RecordCount>>

You get your record number of record count displayed and no fields were added to any table.

            Oooooh. Very very nice.

(I don't feel so thick now since it required "a trick" from the pros.)

I want to take a momnet to thank you all for your help in the weeds here sorting out the powers of fmp.

            Merry New Year!
