Are you on a mac or windows? If on a mac, you probably can use applescript. If on windows, you can use a plugin as such ( http://mooplug.com/features ) to read in each file in a directory and then you can loop through them when you script your import. This way you can capture the name of the file for each import.
Another option is to start by inserting the file into a global container field, as reference only. This will give you access to the file's path, which you can then use to import the file and to add the date to the imported records.
