      Go to field when creating New Record

      Post

      Hello Everyone,

      So I have a database that has multiple tabs in it and when I create a new record it stays on the tab I am at. How do I default my database to go to a certain tab or to a certain field when I create a new record?

      Thank you in Advance!

      Nick

          You can use the name box at the top of the inspector's position tab to give the desired tab panel an object name. THen a script can use Go To Object to select that panel and this makes that panel the front panel. If you use a script to create the new record, this script can include such a step to bring the desired panel to the front.

          And another poster just posted a description today of how you can use OnRecordLoad as a trigger to script responses to the creation of a new record. It works like this:

          Set up a field, NewRecordFlag to auto-enter a value such as the number 1.

          OnRecordLoad can then perform this script:

          If [ Yourtable::NewRecordFlag ]
             Go to Object ["yourTabPanelObjectNameGoesHere"]
             Set Field [Yourtable::NewRecordflag ; False ]
          End If

          If you use Filemaker Advanced, you can instead, use a custom menu that performs your own script to create the new record and select the desired tab panel.

            Thank you very much! That worked perfectly!
