      Go To Layout Question

      Post

      New guy here, coming over from A5.  Any help is much appreciated!

      I have two tables, Customer & Confirmation, linked by customerID.  I have created one layout for each table.  While viewing a customer record in the Customer layout, I want the user to be able to click a button that will open the Confirmation layout and create a new record for that customer.  I have tried the Go To Layout script as well as some other stuff with no success.  Any ideas?

      Thanks

          Since you need several actions to take place in sequence, you'll need to use Manage | Scripts to write a script.

          Set Variable [$CustomerID ; Customer::CustomerID]
          Go To Layout ["Confirmation" (Confirmation)]
          New Record/Request
          Set Field [Confirmation::CustomerID ; $CustomerID]

          Use the perform script option for your button to run the above script.

          A simpler approach that does not even require a button would be to add a portal to Confirmation on your customer layout. If you enable "allow creation of records via this relationship", you can add records in the confirmation table simply by enter data in the bottom blank row of the portal.
