Guideline on which script triggers to use and at what design level ( if my terminology is correct)

Post

Should one code and use scripts as close as possible to the objects and associated records in a layout or as high as possible?

For example, PhilModJunk kindly pointed out that to control an aspect of my records changing I use the OnRecordLoad trigger on the client layout, whereas I was trying to use the OnObjectEnter trigger on the portal that exisits on the same layout.

But having implemented the change and used the OnRecordLoad option, I realise I can control most of what I want to acheive at this initial or high level.

Is this the best option and why?  Is it easier to maintain/debug or does it have more or less of a performance overhead ?  These are the sort of issues I would like any answer to address.

Thanks in advance....

Using Windows XP SP3 & FMP 10
