Each time that I visit FileMaker Headquarters to attend a digFM meeting, the security guard uses what I believe is a Dymo to print my visitor's badge. I would imagine that they are using a Filemaker DB to do that....
My understanding, as long as the OS understands how to print to the printer, the FileMaker can print to it. Select the Printer. Create the layout, similar to creating a layout on an iPhone. That should work.
Using version 4 or 5, I forget, we created a VIP database. One of the layouts was to print on a plastic card (credit card type card). Super easy to do. I hope versions 12, 13, or 14 have not complicated it since then.
as long as the OS understands how to print to the printer,
This is not always the case. A number of different printer drivers, for different versions over the years have failed to "play nice" with FileMaker. In some cases, a driver update from the printer mfg fixed the problem, other times not.
Did you ever get this set up and running? I'm looking at the same label printer (Dymo 4XL) and have the same question.
Sorry I'm 2 weeks late. You may have already figured it out, but yes it works just fine. INstall the drivers and make a layout that works and you're good to print from FM.
