Double Clicking only works with "referenced" files in Containers. Export Field Contents can be used to open a copy of a file in a container field regardless of whether or not the file was inserted "by reference".
I have the files moved from referenced to External(Open) Container now, is there something I can do to the container field to open the pdf that will look and act similar to the referenced files in FM Pro and FM GO? Like make it a button?
To repeat from my last post: Export Field Contents can be used to open a copy of a file in a container field regardless of whether or not the file was inserted "by reference".
and this can be a step in a script performed by clicking a button. The container field itself can be set up as that button if you do not need to click/tap that field in order to insert files into it in the first place.
I've already export field contents as a scripted button on the container field and it isn't doing what I need, just gives the save file dialog. I don't need the files saved out of the database I just need the user to be able to click on pc/mac or tap with the ipad on the the pdfs and have them open and viewable like the did when they were "referenced".
You set up a file path that specifies the location and file name of the exported file automatically and select the "automatically open file" option.
You may find this thread on $path variables helpful: Exploring the use of a $Path Variable in Scripts
The demo file that you can download from this thread includes a calculation field that will extract a file name from a container field.
Thanks again Phil,
The $path example was great help, just wish I'd know about it sooner.
