If all else fails, you can choose the "blank" option when creating a new layout and then add the layout parts and objects you want one item at a time.
Thanks for the reply.
Choose a new layout, blank, each time the layout comes out as a label layout.
Change the print options to A4, still does the same.
I'm guessing there is either a setting I am missing or the layout is locked as its a template.
Filemaker can prevent you from entering layout mode or modifying an exisiting layout if password privileges have been so set up. I can't imagine a method where you would be permitted to enter layout mode, select new layout and then encounter restrictions.
What about the new layout tells you it's a "label" layout?
No passwords set, it's a template which comes with v10.
Just looking through now, may be a setting somewhere which sets all print options to label. Just trying to find where !
This may help: page break lines on a layout are placed there by filemaker as a function of the current printer settings and some Print settings (such as margins, number of columns) you specify in Layout Setup...
Thus, if the last thing you did was print an envelope, or something with a small, custom page size, you might see page break lines that show an unsual page size. If that's the case, go to print setup and select the page size and orientation you want. Then you'll see the page break lines change on your layout.
Thanks for the help, but whatever print options are changed it stilkl prints out a label on an A4.
Just created a new database and can create an A4 page without a problem, so it must be something within the template/file.
Scripts don't have any 'set functions', no prefs. set to remember label layout
"Scripts don't have any 'set functions', no prefs. set to remember label layout"
But filemaker will remember the last print settings used in this case. Pull down the file menu and select print setup... to see what they are.
"It still prints out a label"
Is the part that suprises me. If you've created a new blank layout, all you should get is a blank page unless you've specifically placed fields on your layout to display data.
Print options in setup are set to A4.
If I print any layout, it will print an A4 page on a laser but only the part within the label layout will show !
That's saying the same thing I already posted. Check settings in printer setup...
Think this may have something to do with it.
When you create a database file (without using one of the database template files shipped with FileMaker Pro), FileMaker Pro automatically creates a Standard form layout for the initial table in the file, and for each newly added table that contains fields.
Maybe the templates are locked in some way.
The templates that come with filemaker are not locked in any way. They are shipped that way so that developers can customize them to create new solutions.
If you got this template from somewhere else, it might be locked, but I can't imagine how they could possibly lock it in the way you describe.
Many thanks for you time and help.
I will just have to play and try and find whats going on.
If I make a new database, I can do what i want easily. Not sure what it is in this template which is stopping me.
Which template, which version of filemaker?
