This blog post explains how to if you are using Filemaker ver 10
Script Triggers: Using Layout Triggers for a Dynamic Tab Orders
Script Triggers: Using the Keystroke Trigger
No script trigger is needed just to have a return key take you to the next field in the tab order. Simply select the field in layout mode and choose Field/Control | Behavior. You can select which combination of three keys (tab, Return (Qwerty enter key on a windows keyboard) and/or Enter (Numeric keybad enter on a windows keyboard), will take the use to the next field.
Edit note: not relevant to this issue as you want to move to the same field in the next record, not the next field in the tab order.

Hopefully that's not the case here.
I am using Filemaker 10 and I want the teachers to go to the same field in the next record. Not sure if Scripttrigger is what I need.
Scratch my earlier post. I missed the phrase "next student's field". A script trigger will do the job.
I am somewhat new to creating a Script trigger, could you get me started? I looked at the website and then went to script triggers, but couldn't see how to advance it to the same field on the next student's record. Thanks for you help.
In your script trigger script:
Go to Record [next]
Go to Field [specify your field here]
will move the cursor to a field you select in the next record.
