I would set up 3 extra fields, one that pads the first name to 10 characters, one that pads the last name to 15 characters and then one that is the combination of the two.
The expression for the padded first name would be Right (" " & firstname ; 10) // adds spaces to the front of first name then takes the last 10 characters.
The same for last name except use 15 spaces and get the Right 15 characters.
Then the combination would be paddedFirst & paddedLast
Thanks Mark, that sounds good. However, I didn't understand your last sentence: "Then the combination would be paddedFirst & paddedLast".
Would this also be useful in this case: SerialIncrement ( "0000000000" ; Self )
The "combination" would be the field that you wanted as an output, the first and last names padded out to 25 characters.
I've never used the SerialIncrement, so not sure how or if it would work. In my example I just used spaces for the padding, but you could use any character you wanted.
Many bookkeeping programs can import from excel files. Anychance that's possible with this program? If it is, you can export to excel and that will be much less work for you.
