What else is in the text field besides this number?
and if the value is 15001, do you want to extract:
15001---> this might be the case if you have other data besides this number in your text field
The text field is a description of a bank transaction like: 10119/20025241 12082 XX12082XX M .DE VRE AMSTE Facility BV.The number in red is the invoice number.
Or sometimes the text field looks like this: BETALINGSKENM. KENM1205 FACTUUR 12093 UNITED BV
That will be a problem as there isn't much in the text to consistently identify which part of the text represents the value you want to parse from this text.
Would it be safe to assume that this is always 5 digit number and always the first 5 digit strictly numeric (only digits 0...9) term when the text is scanned from left to right?
Do you have FileMaker Advanced?
I work with Filemaker pro 13. It is always a 5 digit strictly numeric. I create this invoice number myself and my clients use this number to pay the invoice
Yes but when you scan the text from left to right, will this always be the first such 5 digit strictly numeric entry separated by spaces from the other entries in the field?
If there is ever the possibility, that another 5 character entry could precede it and be only digits, what I am thinking of as a solution will fail.
A looping script can use MiddleWords to check each "word" in a left to right "scan" of the text for length and to confirm that all characters are a digit in 0...9 to find and extract this value.
If you had FileMaker Advanced, we could set up this looping algorithm as a custom function.
