Hide the Settings menu-item with custom menus?
Building custom menus for my solution but I can't get rid of the Settings menu-item under the Filemaker Pro Advanced menu, anything i'm missing here?
That menu item is named differently in English, but you are correct, the Tools menu cannot be modified via custom menus. The assumption here is that if you have the file open in FileMaker Advanced, you are the developer and that menu is needed to be able to evaluate and modify the design of the file.
It's expected that general users will use the less expensive FileMaker Pro to open and use the database.
Hmmm, ok, my bad, I meant the "Preferences..." under the "Filemaker Pro Advanced" menu. The Tools menu works as I would expect it to :-)
Trying to build a menus for my run-time solution, and I can get the "Filemaker Pro Advanced" menu to be the name of my app, but still the "Preferences..." menu-item is there.
I don't see the problem. In WIndows 7, FileMaker 13, I was able to go to Manage | Custom menus, make a copy of the Edit menu and then remove the preferences option just like I can any other menu option. I can then set up a custom menu set that includes this new copy of the edit menu to have a menu set with no preferences option.
It's not the Tools nor the Edit menu, but under the "Filemaker Pro Advanced" on a Mac, and I can't find a way to do that as there is no options as for other menus...
This has been a problem since the custom menus exist. A FileMaker Programmer told me 7 years ago, during DevCon in Orlando, that this was due to a problem in Mac OS X.
I never insisted on this, but I tell my clients that we have to live with this and that they should use another Preferences menu that I have placed underneath the FM one. Of course, in the interface are buttons that send the user to the proper place.
That would explain things as I am using windows where the preferences menu is found under the edit menu and is fully controllable through custom menus.
Kind of strange this, in fact there is a Preference menu-item under the Edit menu in the lists while customizing on a Mac, but removing that has seems to do nothing as on a Mac it's under another menu.
7 year and same problem persists... not moving fast there I hear :-)
